The reason for this demonstration today is to commemorate Silvio Meier and all victims of right wing violence. Especially on a day like this we are united by one thing and that is antifascism. It is the conviction that Germany was, is and will be the problem. On all levels.
Right wing violence and racist attacks are part of everyday life in germany as well as racial profiling and police violence, deportation and refugee camps.
Nazis kill and the state deports…
We´re all on the streets today as a statement against fascism.
We also find it important to always reflect on our own structures as well.
In advance it was announced that the first line of the demonstration was to be done by „female socialised“ people. This has led to many discussions. One crticism stated that the antifascist demonstration is being misused for feminist ends. Inour opinion there is no contradiction between an antifascist claim and a critical antisexist perspective. And we find this perspective really important towards the outside, when we criticise patriarcal structures as well as on the inside- within our own structures.
It would be nice to be able to say that we have overcome the categorisation of people into two sexes/gender. Heterosexism and judging people by their physical appearance is still a common thing in left radical structures and also the discussion about the first line has not been very constructive.
Inspite of legitimate criticism of this marginalising concept we would have hoped that the criticism of sexist structures in antifascist structures wouldn´t just be pushed aside. Also in a demosntration against right wing violence there should be room to reflect about other kind of power structures. Dominant behaviour and hierachies in our structures makes us all weaker – antifascist resistance loses a lot of power. An atmosphere in which anyone would trust themselves to be in the first line or to hold a speech would make us all stronger. Gender identities should have nothing to do with that. But the reality in these structures should also not be denied. We should all reflect on when and how we ourselves reproduce sexism and racism.
Solidarity shouldn´t just be an empty phrase – criticism shouldn´t seperate us but help us to progress! For a united struggle against fascism on all levels.
Never again fascism! Never again germany!
